Kiwa – a self-compassion chatbot

Are you a young Pasifika person aged 16-20 and interested in learning about a new way to improve your mental wellbeing?

Noa’ia, Mauri, Ni Sa Bula Vinaka, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Tālofa, Kia orana, Mālō e lelei, Mālō nī, Talofa lava, Tēnā koutou katoa and warm Pacific greetings to you all!

We’ve designed a self-compassion chatbot called Kiwa and you’re invited to try it out for 10 days.

Who can take part?

We are looking for young Pasifika people aged 16-20 to take part in this study. You will need to have access to a smartphone, tablet or computer and you will also need to download an app called HABITs Messenger from your App Store.

What will happen in the study?
  • To take part in this study, you’ll need to answer some questions online at the start and after 10 days, and to download HABITs Messenger onto your device.
  • When you complete the baseline (first) questions, you’ll be asked to answer questions about yourself and consent to this study. Then, you’ll be asked fill out some questions about self-compassion, wellbeing and identity. This should take 10-15 mins.
  • When you complete these questionnaires, you will be directed to a link that will connect you to our chatbot.
  • Once a day, the chatbot will send you helpful messages and different self-compassion
activities. These activities are brief and you can revisit them as many times as you want.
  • During the 10 days, usage information will be sent to us. For example, how often you use the
    chatbot.
  • After the 10 days, we’ll send you a link to fill out some more questions. This helps us know
if anything has changed for you and gives you a chance to tell us what you thought about the
    chatbot.
  • If you would like, at the end of 10 days, you can enter a prize draw to win one of six $50 gift vouchers after you’ve given feedback on the chatbot.
